Good Book and Good Story

Good Book

My sister-in-law Sarah recommended this book to me. It is bar none the most helpful marriage book that I have ever read. It’s a great book that is very helpful for both healthy and difficult marriages. Check it out. It’s a pretty popular book so most libraries have it.

Good Story
When giving Winfield instruction, he is required to respond with a “Yes Mommy” or “Yes Daddy” to show us that he’s heard us and complies. It works pretty well and he’s pretty good at doing it. This morning when I instructed him not to touch something he looked at me and said, “Yes Rachel.”

Saturday…a day for fun, presents and new ‘puters

Saturdays around here are really fun. I love them. We don’t do much, just hang out and play. Jared’s home and the kids love hanging out with Daddy all day. Yesterday morning I was excited to tell Win that it was a Saturday and Daddy would be home ALL day. I said, “Do you know what today is? Today is Saturday! What happens on Saturdays?” Win replied, “Presents?” recalling that last saturday we celebrated his birthday and he opened presents. Amazed that he had remembered that the whole birthday/present experience did truly happen on a Saturday I asked him again. He said, “Daddy new ‘puter?” referring to the new computer that arrived in the mail the Saturday before. Again I was amazed at his memory. Here are some pictures of the last 2 Saturdays.

Here’s Win wondering what is in the big box.

Things becoming a little more obvious.

Win loved ripping (usually a forbidden activity) the paper off the book presents that he received. He’s been lovin’ his new books all week.

He also really enjoyed eating Henderson chocolate peanut butter cake.

Win the Builder

Win has been loving Lincoln Logs lately. He’s recently been given logs from both sets of Grandparents. Rather than being too many, this has actually allowed him (with a little help from us) to build and play with HUGE towers. They are several feet tall and Win can’t get enough of them. Here’s a few shots of him and his most recent architectural creation.

Shameless bragging continued

In addition to knowing his letters, Win is really good at coloring. We bought him some crayons for his birthday and he’s really taken a liking to it. How do you like the cookie monster that he* colored?

Randall, our neighbor and friend, came over yesterday. His mother is sick and in the hospital. He borrowed Win’s crayons to make her a card.

Win shared very nicely.

They both worked diligently on their respective projects.

*Truthfully, Win didn’t really color the cookie monster in the first picture. That’s what in know among professionals as a “camera trick.” The secret: I inserted a pre-colored image onto the table. He took a crayon and began coloring on top it it, creating the illusion that he had actually colored like an adult. This is a secret little professional trick that I am willing to reveal. ;-)

WARNING! Shameless bragging ahead

With only a little instruction from us Win studied and learned all of his letters before he turned two. He started to figure out the letters were neat and began obsessing over them until he learned all 26. Here he is sitting with Denise and going through a letter book that she gave him. The sound isn’t the greatest and his elocution isn’t exactly stellar, but you’ll get the idea.

Here’s the slideshow from my session at the Wolthuis home yesterday. Enjoy!
