New Michigan Tourism Radio Ads

So, has anyone else heard these new, high-budget radio ads for Michigan tourism that have started airing recently? They play incessantly at our gym, and I’ve been laughing to myself all day about this one:

I don’t even know where to start, honestly. Why do I get the feeling at the beginning of this ad that this is a a SNL Jack Handy piece?

“…[swelling piano and strings]…each one of which will break your heart, as you step up to the first tee…at dawn…”

Don’t deny it, Dad, you’ve got a little tear running down your cheek right now, don’t you?

So I came home tonight and was telling Rachel about these pieces of sheer unintentional (?) comedic genius, so naturally we googled them and then came across another in the series and we both about fell off the floor when we heard this one:

Radio Ad for Flint Michigan (not a typo) tourism

So, who wants to join us over the long July 4th weekend for a trip to the Flint Farmer’s Market and Solarium? I know we’ll be there.

Again, speechless. I can’t wait to see what this marketing firm could come up with as an ad campaign for Gary, Indiana.

“…[swelling piano and strings]…with more than 150 thriving strip clubs and the historic ruins of long-departed industry…”

Oh, and the voice you hear? None other than Michigan’s favorite son, Tim Allen.

Noon Sun

Noon sun is very challenging light to photograph. I made Hattie model for me. I needed the practice after a Michigan winter of very little direct light. Thanks Harriet.

A bit of news

Hey everyone.  Yesterday morning I woke up with a wicked neckache and a ton of pain shooting down my left arm.  The pain increased throughout the day until I caved at about 10:30pm and Rachel took me to the ER.  Anyway, the long and the short of it is, I’m in the hospital right now and am scheduled for surgery tomorrow (Wednesday) at 12noon.  The  surgery is to correct a severely ruptured disc in my neck.  The procedure  they’re going to do is called a “cervical C6/7 transcorporal discectomy.”  Sounds cool, eh?

I’m feeling a lot better today, thanks to not moving at all for about 24 hours and a decent amount of narcotics.  I’d appreciate any prayers you’d throw my way.  My nuerosurgeon is named Dr. David Lowry, and he seems like a good guy. Rachel and I are doing fine, not too worried or anything.  Thanks!

Win the Builder

Win has been loving Lincoln Logs lately. He’s recently been given logs from both sets of Grandparents. Rather than being too many, this has actually allowed him (with a little help from us) to build and play with HUGE towers. They are several feet tall and Win can’t get enough of them. Here’s a few shots of him and his most recent architectural creation.

Win and Hattie have a pretty good relationship, so far.  They just genuinely like each other.  Hattie lights up when she sees Win, and follows him with her eyes all around the room.  Win likes to sit with Hattie and show her things in his favorite books.  Sometimes, when putting Hattie down for a nap, we find that Win has surreptitiously stashed a few toys in her crib, hoping to give her something do during the time of her confinement.  We think its pretty cute.

Afternoon at the Community Pool

So yesterday we spent the afternoon with the kids at the Holland Aquatic Center. They have a huge ’splash zone’ which is a super kid-friendly pool area. Tons of toys, squirting things, balls, and all in water less than two feet deep. Win literally thought he’d died and gone to heaven. Harriet, on the other hand, got cold fast and spent most of the time sitting in the hot tub with mom. (Actually, mom was in the hot tub sort of and splashed warm water on Hattie. We know its not healthy to put a baby in a hot tub.)
