Airplanes can be scary

October 17, 2009   |   by Rachel

This afternoon we bundled up the kids and stopped by Tulip City airport to see a Kodiak  Airplane demonstration.  It's a pretty cool airplane that needs only 300 feet of runway to take off and land.  It was designed for organizations like MAF that need to reach remote and isolated locations.  The son of our friends Chuck and Ellen works for the company that designed and builds these new airplanes.  We've been hearing about these for a while and it was really neat to be able to see one. When we first arrived Harriet started pointing at the plane and shouting, "no! no! I don't wanna go in that airplane."  Winfield thought that it was pretty neat until the propeller started.  He made a quick dash the the corner of the hanger and began shivering and crying meanwhile Harriet buried her head into Jared's shoulder and refused to look.  Win was terrified and Harriet was in denial.  Once it took off they calmed down a little and began to enjoy the airport.  Slowly they warmed up to it and began to enjoy it.  By then end Harriet was asking why she didn't get to ride in it. My husband works in the airplane industry and I asked him if he ever heard of this (and was showing him your AWESOME pics). Turns out they are manufactured one hour from our house! ;) HA! Small world. Glad your kids came around and enjoyed themselves.
