And the all-knowing marketing minds of corporations like Oriental Trading Company and Birthday Express know that there is a little girl in our house with a 4-year birthday coming up.  So they send junk mail and my kids looooove it.  The love it when the mail man comes and there is a magazine.  They will sit together and pour over the 10 zillion options of little plastic cheap crap, fake spiders, pencils by the gross and inflatable zebras with bad breath.  Who can blame them?  I like to shop too. So the other day an American Girl catalog arrived (surprise surprise).  When I saw it is thought that Harriet would really like it and I set it in a place that she'd notice it.  A couple of days later she hadn't flipped through it at all.  So I picked it up and gave it to her.  She cooly responded, "Mom, I don't like dolls."  News to me!  We'd never really bought her any dolls, only because we're lazy.  So I guess we just saved ourselves $200.
